If you’re like most people, you probably don’t have your camper packed yet. That’s ok. In fact, there’s a lot of time to get it all together. Before you know it, it will be time to roll out of your driveway and into the great outdoors. However, packing for a camping trip can be quite overwhelming, especially if you’re new to the lifestyle. It’s easy to get caught in the middle of packing and not know what you’re doing. The good news is that you don’t need to know how to do it all. In fact, packing for a camping trip doesn’t have to be overwhelming at all, especially if you follow our tips for packing. You can rest easy knowing that you’re getting the most out of the limited space in your camper.
Create a checklist.
Before you begin packing, it’s a good idea to make a checklist. It’s amazing how many things you’ll forget to pack without a checklist. A checklist makes sure you don’t miss items that are important. A checklist also prevents you from packing too much. A good checklist has three columns: “To Bring,” “Not to Bring,” and “Maybe.” Start by making a list of everything that you think you need. Then go through the list and mark the things that you don’t actually need. Finally, look over your list and mark the things you might need. Remember that you’ll be bringing a lot of food and water. You won’t have room for a lot of extra stuff.
Label Everything
When you’re packing for a camping trip, it’s important to be organized so you don’t lose anything — or at the very least, make it easier for you to find everything. The last thing you want is to realize you forgot toilet paper or the tent poles when you’re already at the campsite. To make it easier to pack, label everything. If you have enough space on the outside of your camper to write a label, use a permanent marker. If not, make labels out of masking tape and a pen. Write a number on every bag that you pack. For example, write “1” on bag one, “2” on bag two, “3” on bag three and so on. This will help you keep track of the bags in the camper.
Pack the Roof
When you are packing your camper, the roof is one of the last places you start and one of the first places you finish. Sure, the roof isn’t something you have to worry about too often, but you do have to put a lot of those awkwardly shaped items on it at some point. I am talking about those items that don’t fit in the cabin of your camper and really don’t fit anywhere else. You can use a lot of the space on the roof, so you want to maximize what you can put on it.
Packing the insides of your camper.
If you have a lot of stuff you’re going to want to stay organized, so get a few bins and label them by their functions – clothes, food, etc. This will keep you organized and allow you to find things more easily.
